You are bidding on a Rare Walt Disney USA Leeds Pottery Santa Donald Duck Planter 6 3/4” Tall. Distributed By Leeds Pottery OF CHICAGO, ILLINOIS 1944-1954 VERY GOOD CONDITION!
LEEDS POTTERY was a Distributor of Disney licensed pottery pieces from 1944 through 1954. Many collectors are surprised to hear that LEEDS Pottery did not actually manufacture these pieces. The Chicago based LEEDS POTTERY contracted with multiple pottery manufacturers so as to obtain the best prices, quantity and production time lines to deliver these wonderful Walt Disney Productions ceramic pieces to Flower Shops and Gift Shops across the country.
Planters, Vases and Pitchers with flower arrangements were basic LEEDS products. LEEDS also distributed the famous Disney Character “Turnabout” Cookie Jars. Their Disney product line also included Character Banks, Lamps and Salt & Pepper Shakers. Earlier pieces were painted overglaze, and the paint frequently flaked off. Later pieces were airbrushed with lighter pastel colors under glaze. These remain in excellent condition. Since the lighter pastel colors under glaze were created in fewer numbers and are more rare.
This Leeds Pottery Santa Donald Christmas Ceramic planter Is one of the most sought after and difficult to find Leeds Ceramic Pieces produced!
This Santa Donald Ceramic Planter dates back to around 1951 to 1954 which makes it about 70 Years Old!
Donald stands 6 3/4” tall, 6 1/2” wide, and 3 1/2” deep. The paint is quite good, however, it is evident that the reds and blacks on Donald's coat, hat and belt have been repainted. The air brushed areas are original with beautiful shades of soft yellow, pink and green pastel colors. There are no chips, cracks or breaks on this rare piece and the inside of the planter is clean. There is no visible crazing. The bottom is incised “Donald Duck © Walt Disney Prod."
