Fossil Dinosaur Sauropod likely Camarasaurus Jurassic bone 5.8" Utah COA 3999

Description

Here is a partial bone from a Sauropod, from the Morrison Formation of eastern Utah.
Form the Jurassic, the middle age of the Dinosaurs, about 150 million years ago. It is a large piece, measuring about 5.8 inches at its longest measurement, diagonally.  It weighs 2 lb. 6.2 oz. It has great curvature like possibly a limb bone.
It is impossible to tell what kind of sauropod it is without a lot of other bones nearby from the same animal. We have a number of pieces from the same body, but we haven't met anyone who can identify them more specifically than "sauropod".  They are the largest dinosaurs to have lived in present-day Utah, with long necks and long tails, a small head and a large body upheld by 4 pillar-like legs.
Camarasaurus is by far the most common sauropod to be found in eastern Utah. So this is likely (but not certain) to be from a Camarasaurus, because of the number of them found here. Utah was also home to the following sauropods: Apatosaurus, Diplodocus, Brachiosaurus, and Barosaurus. All were giants, the Camarasaurus was actually one of the smaller ones at 50 feet and 25 tons.
Dinosaur bones are excavated from very hard rock, and they are usually excavated in parts and then glued together. That was the situation here, with a small piece nearly perfectly reattached to the larger piece. That is not considered a defect with dinosaur bones, but is rather the more common standard procedure.
We are happy to enclose a COA (Certificate of Authenticity).  Some words of caution about COA’s: Do not let them become a substitute for learning about the specimens. We have been working with fossils and minerals for many years, and we have seen hundreds of very nice-looking COA’s, some that are wrong, mis-describing a specimen. In addition, the person selling the item is often the one who writes the COA (potential conflict of interest). Finally, a COA, without a photo of the exact item on the COA itself,  is worthless, as it can later be placed next to any other fossil or mineral.  We suggest that instead of relying on a COA, that people read and study the subject.
