    GREAT ANOSTERIA  SP.:
    ,,,,,
This is a great fossil turtle from the Eocene of Maoming, Guangdong Province, China. Both the carapace and plastron are represented. It measures 4 " long x 3 " wide and is quite heavy, weighing close to 1 pound. The shell is in its natural state with no restoration. This appears to be a species of Anosteria, possibly Anosteria maomingensis, which is the most common turtle from Maoming..  Anosteria was a soft-shelled fresh-water turtle of the family Carettochlyidae and had a small plastron. The large size of this plastron relative to the carapace, the thickness of the shell, and the wear on the shell (lack of distinct growth lines) suggest that this was indeed a very young turtle. The internal structure of the shell is well preserved in cross-section along the sides of the shell. (see 5th photo).Guaranteed 100% authentic fossil....Chinese, but not a Chinese fake. Shipping will be by USPS Priority box

    Description
The Eocene Epoch is a geological epoch that lasted from about 56 to 33.9 million years ago. It is the second epoch of the Paleogene Period in the modern Cenozoic Era. The name Eocene comes from the Ancient Greek ἠώς and καινός and refers to the "dawn" of modern fauna that appeared during the epoch.
