Description
Offered today is a rare cuff bracelet with quartz gemstones, by renowned mid-century modernist artist, Frances Holmes Boothby.  I found quite a few of her pieces (animal brooches, bangles and a pendant or two) for comparison, but NONE as beautiful and sturdy and "one-of-a-kind" as this cuff bracelet.  If you are a collector of modernist jewelry and "fhb", you don't want to pass this one up!
Boothby was primarily known for her smaller brooches, inspired by nature.  She worked in gold and silver, often with semi-precious gemstones, as in this bracelet.  She was a jewelry-crafting instructor at the Birchkill Arts+Crafts Guild in Troy, NY (which is right outside of our location in NYS) and later sold her jewelry out of her shop in Weston, Vermont.  She is well-respected as an important mid-century modernist silversmith, having passed away in 2000.
This bracelet is gorgeous.  It is heavy gauge sterling, weighing 48.8 grams.  It's bezel-set across the front with three cabochons of a light brown quartz, in oxidized "shadowbox" circles.  There is no damage whatsoever to the gemstones, and only light scratches on the silver, commensurate with wear.
This collectible bracelet is hallmarked "fhb" and Sterling.  It is 5/8" wide, and measures 2 1/4" across the oval, with a 7/8" gap.  It is NOT very flexible, and it will fit up to a 6.5" wrist comfortably.  It weighs 48.8 grams, and is in excellent vintage condition.
