    Description

HAR Happy Buddha Dragon BRACELET Rare XLNT CONDN Book Pc Asian China Man Coolie
From the highly sought after series of Asian-inspired jewelry by HAR, this whimsical bracelet is quite wonderful.  Of course, it is a Book Piece and appears in many references, including Schiffer's
    Fun Jewelry,
where pieces from the Asian series are shown (p 100).
    In gold-plated metal, t
    he bracelet has
a coolie hat viewed from above, making it quite sculptural, a smiling Buddha head, a sinuous dragon sprawled across one plaque and a carved, mottled green art glass stone, likely simulating jade.  The curving sides of each plaque frame it like a Chinese character and add to the exotic Asian look and with the openwork, it makes a wonderful outline on the wrist.  Studded with sparkling aurora borealis rhinestones and textured oval green cabs, simulating jade, it is highly detailed, from the pagoda designs on the connecting links and flowers at the clasp, all both engraved and in relief, to the fan-like folds in the coolie hat and expression on the man's face.
His head is made of cream colored plastic, simulating ivory and he has the most agreeably jolly expression imaginable.  He just makes you smile.  With his wide grin and bulging cheeks, his eyes are squeezed shut and I almost thought I heard him chuckle (but I guess it was just me, giggling...).
It is very dimensional and measures about 1-1/2" wide by around 6-1/2" extended (inside circumference closed, or wearable length) by about 3/4" deep and has a push in v-spring and box clasp "hidden" in the design (fourth photo) along with a safety chain for added security.
It is signed "HAR" with a "c" in a circle on the back.  (Ninth photo.)  Not much is known about the Hargo company of New York, who signed its jewelry HAR, but apparently, it was in business from only around the mid 1950s until 1967.
It is in Very Good / Excellent vintage condition with a little dirt, surface wear to the gold-plating (only on the back and a little original glue residue, mostly on the back but extending to the sides a bit around the art glass stone).  Absolutely nothing of consequence and it is quite captivating.
    MUCH
nicer than it appears in the poor photos!
Conjuring the fantasy of the Orient and the mysteries of Asia, this interesting bracelet will add an exotic touch to your outfit and the romance and opulence of the Far East to your wardrobe.  A highly sought and sensational figural bracelet from Har's Asian series to add to your collection!
