Description
Indian Head Penny embossed 1st Day cover - Scott #1734First Day of Issue of the 13 cent Indian Head Penny stamp (Scott #1734). A block of four of the stamps with the copyright in the selvage is affixed to a cover issued by the Postal History Gallery of the Wyoming State Museum. The cover is also stamped with the 4 cent Frederic Remington stamp (Scott #1187)
The Indian Head Penny stamps were postmarked in Cheyenne, Wyoming, on January 11, 1978, the First Day of Issue of the Indian Head Penny stamp. Both stamps were also canceled in Centennial, Wyoming, on the same day.
The cover's cache is an embossed reproduction of the face of an 1878 Indian Head Penny coin. The reverse side of the cover gives a brief history of the Cheyenne Indians.
“First Day of Issue” is stamped in the top right of the cover. The serial number “0800” is stamped in the lower right corner of the cover.
