R & E 1896 Leyden Lion Head Trim Cast Brass Door Knobs & 2 Escutcheon Plates

Description

Signed Russell & Erwin Mfg. Co. Leyden pattern with lion head on escutcheons and dated door knobs.  Mortise bit key lock trim consists of two knobs on original spindle and two escutcheon plates.  Heavy cast and in very nice condition.  The plates measure 9  3/4" x 2  3/4"  at widest and about 1/4" thick.  Spacing distance is 2  1/4" from knob center to top center of key way.  Backs are both marked Russell & Erwin Mfg. Co. New Britain Ct U.S.A. and # 827S.   Door knobs measure about 2 1/4" and one is permanently attached to original spindle. Knob has small impressions on either side of the plain portion behind pattern looks like someone tried to force the knob off the spindle without knowing how it was permanently attached.  The other door knob is marked and dated on the base of shank "Russell & Erwin Mfg. Co. New Britain Ct. U.S.A. Pat. Oct. 12, '86  Feb. 18, '96 - and is in very good condition.
This set is heavy cast and fine quality original R & E marked appropriately and featuring the close-up lion head face in oval.   As found.
