Description
This listing is for a theropod dinosaur tooth from thedinosaur age beds of Niger, Africa.
The tooth was found in the region outside of the city of
Agadez in central Niger. There are a few
different geologic regions that have dinosaur bearing sediments including the
Elrhaz Formaiton (Cretaceous) as well as the Tiouraren and Irhazer Formations
(both Jurassic in Age). All formations
have sauropod dinosaurs described from them but only the Jurassic formations
have sauropods with this kind of tooth structure, so this tooth is most likely from
one of those formations dating back to the Jurassic.
If we look at the theropod dinosaur species from those
formations, there is Eocarcharia and Kryptops from the Elrhaz formation. Or, it
could be from either Afrovenator or Spinostropheus from the Tiouraren and Irhazer
(they are fairly similar in age).
Fossils coming out of these regions are hard to track exactly
where they were found, so some research and detective work can help give a most
likely identification of the. Of course
there are other resources out there and people with vast knowledge bases about
this that could help ID this tooth.
It seems like teeth coming from the Tiouraren formation have
a much lighter more cream/tan/orange color with dark spotting at times. This tooth does not follow that coloration
pattern which suggest it could more likely be from the Elrhaz formation.
A great quality fossil from a rare location! Great for an advanced fossil collection!
There is no repair or restoration, and the tooth is good size measuring 0.67" in length and comes with its own gem display case.
