Highly Detailed and beautifully Hand Painted in simply Incredible Colors, this vintage Japanese Toshikane / Arita sterling bracelet depicts Elegant Elephants in regal trappings.  So Hard to Find - especially in such nice condition!  In soft but vibrant shades of ivory-colored porcelain with brown eyes, wearing luxuriant blankets in cinnabar orange/red and celadon blue/green with gold accents overall, they will stand out strikingly as they march about your wrist.  The painting is fabulous.  From the shading of their skin to the details of their trappings, it is simply Exquisite.
The bracelet measures about 7-1/2" long, wearable length, by about 1" tall (the height of the large center elephant), tapering to about 3/4" at the clasp in the back.  The well-working push-in clasp is substantial and secure and there is a safety chain for added security.  The largest elephant measures about 1-1/8" long (trunk to tail) by about 1" tall by 5/16" deep, and the two smallest, about 3/4" long by a little over 5/8" tall by about 3/16" deep.  The bracelet weighs 30.4 grams.
The large elephant is signed "Made in Japan" on the back and the back of the clasp is signed "Silver".  (Last photo.)  Japanese silver is typically 950, a higher grade than our sterling and the bracelet tests at least sterling.  (There is no Toshikane mark so the it could be by one of the other firms that produced fine jewelry with Arita porcelain.)
It is in Very Good vintage condition, with just dirt, a little surface wear to the paint and tarnish/patina, as expected.
There are absolutely no flaws of consequence; mostly it could use a good clean (as you can see in the photos, the fronts of the elephants, where they have come in contact with the silver of the adjacent ones, show dirt, which will be easy to remove but has not been done).  The bracelet has a wonderful vintage patina; cleaning and polishing are left to the buyer's discretion.  Even though the elephants are backed in silver, it is still remarkable, given their irregular shapes and delicate trunks, there are no chips at all.  No wonder they are more highly valued than their less sculptural counterparts: not as many of these, with their delicate edges, survive without chipping.  There are slight inconsistencies in the painting that only add to their charm and indeed, help individualize the elephants and give them personality.  Just look at their expressive faces!  They are quite amazing!
Perfect for lovers of Elephants, collectors of Orientalia, Toshikane, Arita or Jewelry.  They will look Sensational on and make a superb addition to a collection.  Probably fashioned after a regal beast belonging to a wealthy Maharajah or Asian potentate, this finely detailed bracelet will make an exotic addition to your wardrobe.  It would also make a sensational gift, and will come to you in a gift box, although I doubt you will want to part with it yourself.  You sure don't see the elephants every day - not even on eBay.  A Fantastic vintage sterling bracelet with elegant Elephants that will delight any collector!  But, better bid now, so some elephant poaching sniper won't scare your princely pachyderms away with his mouse!
