    Description

    Species: Zuul crurivastator
    Formation: Judith River Formation
    Location: Hill County, Montana
    Age: 79-75 mya, Cretaceous
This is an authentic Zuul osteoderm (also known as scutes) from the Judith River Formation. These are the bones that form the armor-like plates on the body of the animal. This piece is not a complete osteoderm, but is complete enough to ensure an accurate identification - thanks to the unique shape and texture of these bones. As Zuul is the only described ankylosaur from the Judith River Formation, this osteoderm can be referred to Zuul. There is no restoration or repair on this specimen. Very high quality of preservation on this bone, and lots of beautiful orange coloration that I’ve seen only in this one area of the Judith.
